Its all in your head....

I think one of the most frustrating things I have heard over the years from Western medicine is "Its just all in your head! There's nothing really wrong with you." If that were the truth, then WHY did I feel so crummy?!? Why did it persist even AFTER doing an almost daily (if not hourly) positive self-pep-talk if it was all in my head? Okay, so again, if its ALL in my head, give me a plausible explanation of WHY I'm swollen in areas I hurt in, why my head still hurts, why am I still tired, why is my stomach still "rough", etc...why, why, WHY??? Well, when Western medicine couldn't answer the "why", I turned to Chinese Medicine. And ya know what? I GOT ANSWERS!

Chinese Medicine looks at the body as a whole and brings it into balance. It is this IMBALANCE that causes aches, pains, disease, & physical reactions to our environment. The "balance" that I am talking about is something that Western medicine still doesn't have a complete understanding of how to register or change. Western medicine has, over the years, become more of a pharmacological solution rather than a true individualistic & lasting change. The body tries desperately to keep itself in balance. There is a specific "order" of things to create "balance" in the body and when that balance is disturbed it tries to correct it. Many times, it simply (and eventually) just adapts to the "IMbalance" seeing that as the new "normal".

Not drinking enough water? Your body responds by giving you a headache. Not eating properly? Your body responds by making you tired, irritable, inflamed & bloated. Not getting enough sleep? Your body NEEDS this time to restore/reboot the system, so when you don't, it responds by making your eyes droopy, your thoughts muddled, your stomach hurt, your intestines to either create constipation or diarrhea, your body to ache, your emotions to be all over the place...basically you FEEL off throughout your entire body.

So you can see, it sends you signals to help you CHANGE the issue and help restore balance. When we DON'T respond with the needed changes, it eventually "adapts" and gives a new "normal" that is, in all actually, a CHRONIC, LONG-TERM IMBALANCE.

We learn to "accept" the constant pain (to live with it), the acid reflux, the irritable bowl, the feelings of numbness/tingling in the hands/feet. We just decide "OK, "this" is "normal" for me and I'll just have to live with it." Well NO MORE! NO MORE!

In a Chinese Medicine session you may hear terms like Yin and Yang (pronounced YONG - like long), Qi (pronounced as chee), Blood, Channels/Meridians (both mean the same thing), Eight Extraordinary Vessels, Five Phases, wind, dampness, phlegm (this has NOTHING to do with your nose but with ANY thickened fluid in the body), up-bearing, down-bearing. All of these terms (and many more) we designed and developed some 9,000 years ago in China (4-5,000 years ago in DOCUMENTATION). The Chinese didn't have all these modern-day appliances to diagnosis with, and yet they had a better overall understanding of HOW the body works than most modern-day medicine. How is it then, that Chinese Medicine is STILL considered "quack" science? Almost every person I have met who views Chinese Medicine this way, has not had sufficient education on the varied aspects (not to mention documentation) of this healthcare. It won't change a thing if you don't understand each of the terms listed above, but MY knowledge of it, makes the vital difference in how I (and other acupuncturists) can treat you...AND be MORE effective in the outcomes.

So, I ask you these questions....

Are you in "constant" pain? Are you tired of being tired all the time? Are you "sick" of being "sick to your stomach" or having acid reflux or heartburn? Are you tired of being told "Its all in your head!" or "You're just going to have to live with it."? Are tired of these things? Then set aside your "fears" and allow Chinese Medicine and acupuncture to make a huge, profound and LASTING change in your health! Find out what TRUE balanced health is like. Find a local acupuncturist near you and "get to the point of what ails you!"
